The “Girl, Commemorated” archive is an alternative digital archive that looks to collect and preserve media, toys, and other off-kilter items from our girlhood with a personal touch. A lot of media appreciated and valued by us growing up is feared to disappear either off the internet or to not be included in history. We refuse to let this happen again. This archive is meant to catalogue personal items from our childhood, whether that is a film, a Flash game, or a toy. It is based on the idea that our girlhood is meant to be commemorated.
Submission Guidelines:
Items for submission must be things you believe are not appreciated enough in our patriarchal hegemonic society (yes to Twilight, no to Call of Duty, but we are willing to take a case). You can submit no matter your gender identity. We operate on a no-hate policy - nothing is ridiculed.
• Include a Google Drive link for photos — these can be scanned or a regular photo of the piece of media/item that was important to you (DVD, CD, Book, Toy, etc.). Screenshots are perfectly fine for digital objects.
• Specifications must be included. These are Item Type, Date of Release, Region of Release, Genre (If Applicable), and Format (If Applicable, such as Flash).
• Please provide a link to where this piece of media can be accessed or bought (including eBay links if it is off the market). If no such link exists - no worries!
• Submit a passage of around 200 words regarding this particular object’s significance to you, your nostalgia for it, and how you perceive it as an adult. You can choose to remain anonymous or use your name or alias. If you are not comfortable providing a written passage submission - this step can be omitted.
• There is no minimum age requirement although we do suggest the piece of media/object to be at least from a few years ago.
